At Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) Farabi Hospital, the first surgery was successfully performed using the Da Vinci Robotic Surgery System provided to the hospital by the KTU Rectorate. The operation was performed by Prof. Dr. Ali Güner and the General Surgery team on a patient with a high-risk and complex anatomy who had previously undergone different surgical procedures. The operation was also reported to be the first robotic surgery performed in Trabzon and the Eastern Black Sea Region. The robotic surgery system provides surgeons with three-dimensional, high-resolution imaging, highly precise movement control, and enhanced access for interventions in confined areas. When appropriate, robotic surgery can also contribute to reducing tissue trauma, pain, and recovery time through procedures performed with smaller incisions. Prof. Dr. Ali Güner, who performed the operation, stated that robotic surgery technology offers significant technical advantages, particularly in complex and advanced surgical procedures, and noted that bringing robotic surgery to the region had been a long-standing institutional project. At KTU Farabi Hospital, the Da Vinci Robotic Surgery System is initially planned to be used for suitable cases in General Surgery and Urology, with its use expected to expand to other appropriate surgical specialties in the future.
